Bobby Newdoll
The Daily Grind: Since Bobby was 5 years old, he knew he wanted to be a builder. His mom asked him what he wanted to do when he grew up, and his answer was “I want to build things.” The certainty of his career path made it easy for him to follow his dreams. Graduating from the Construction Department at Chico State, he moved to San Francisco to work for a large commercial contractor as a Project Manager. His drive, motivation, and passion for the industry allowed him to skyrocket to the top of his trade in an impressive time frame. He is about to break ground on a 10 story, $44 million concrete apartment complex in July, right in the heart of the Tenderloin District. With his iron horse work ethics and entrepreneurial thirst, he has forged his way to becoming a real estate tycoon (well, not quite) in San Francisco. When he is finished with his day job, you can often find him strapping on the tool belt and working on one of his rental properties. He has fully renovated 5 out of the 9 rental units that he owns. It is only a matter of time when he fulfills his lifelong dream of becoming a real estate developer.
Play Time: Like the rest of his comrades, this guy is a true adrenaline junkie. When the sun comes out, he often hops on his Ducati Monster for a weekend ride through some twisty turns. After a pretty bad life changing crash on a dirt bike, he switched hobbies to mountain biking. Now his mountain bike is his favorite past time. His passion for hot rods and horsepower has kept him busy with his Broncos and his 1965 Ford Falcon. He’s currently taking a hot rod motor class at a local junior college where he’s building his 408 Stroked 351 Windsor motor for Lil Hussy. He plans on making it a nasty machine.
Some people see life as a glass half empty, and some see it as a glass half full. Well, this guy’s glass is overflowing most of the time It is rare to encounter him without a big smile on his face. His thirst for life is contagious, as he always has a knack for putting a positive spin on things. Bobby would give you the shirt off of his back, and the shoes off of his feet, and not even know they were missing.
Jeff Cramer
The Daily Grind: What does Jeff Cramer do for a living? Well, I think the more appropriate question is what doesn’t Jeff Cramer do for a living? Jeff has always been a hands-on type of guy, and his interests and talents spread across a vast variety of trades. Shortly after high school, Doc moved to Lake Tahoe to chase his love for the outdoors. Here, he began working at a ski resort in the maintenance department. From wrenching on snow cats, to tuning up sleds, he did a bit of everything. From wrenching on the ground, he graduated to wrenching on actual ski lift towers! That profession came to a screeching halt, as he plummeted from a lift tower 60 feet tall due to a lift operator error. Fortunately he fully recovered from his injuries, and now only has the scars to speak of. From there, he became a helicopter pilot, where he fought some of the fiercest fires Mother Nature could throw at him. When his chopper needed work, he would hang out at the shop and watch the mechanics work on his rig. He was no helicopter mechanic, but he had turned a few wrenches in his days. After being unsatisfied with the quality of their work, he jumped in there and began working on his own machine. You know what they say, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. Now Jeff spends his days in his self made powder coating company, JMC Industrial Powder Coating, in Truckee, CA. He’s built up a good clientele and his work is top notch.
Play Time: When he isn’t powder coating, you can usually find him outdoors. He shares his time among many passions. In the summer, you can find him speeding across the lake in his early model Dan Arena speed boat. You can also catch him four wheeling in the Rubicon with his completely tricked out Toyota Land Cruiser. The thing is tough as nails, and there isn’t much it can’t conquer. A leisurely tubing trip with a 12er of Coors light, or a full on war with some old TVs and Bottles and one of his many guns in his collection also help pass his time.
Jeff gets his nick name “Doc” from his good natured, help-anyone-out-in-a-pinch personality. He’s never too busy to hear about a problem you might have, whether it be mechanical, or about some girl who broke your heart. He is always there to get you out of a pinch, and he always has your back. If you get this guy on your good side, you know you always have someone to count on.
Gio Andolina
The Daily Grind: Gio gave college the old college try down at UC Santa Barbara, but found that his passion for working with his hands far surpassed the satisfaction he got from books and computers. Skinny eventually moved to Lake Tahoe, where he truly mastered his skills as a finish carpenter. Working for local contractors, Gio learned every trade the construction industry had to offer, however his wood craftsmanship is where he excels. He eventually started his own construction company as a general contractor under the name GA Designs. With no advertising necessary, his true craftsmanship made him legendary in the Tahoe basin for some of the cleanest work around. If he isn’t working for a client, you can often find him fixing up his Tahoe cabin. His labor of love has afforded him quite a masterpiece tucked in the South Lake Tahoe Mountains.
Play Time: G Skinny works hard but also plays hard. It would be difficult to count the number of times he has worked long hours for months on end, then just pack up and travel for months at a time. One of his happiest moments is sitting in a hammock in the warm afternoon sun of Costa Rica, sipping on a Corona after riding some epic Costa Rican waves. When G Skinny isn’t ripping on epic waves, you can certainly see him ripping on his KTM 350 dirt bike! As he moves up to Class A in his Enduro circuit, his skills are ferociously good. There isn’t a hill climb that this kid can’t conquer. Gio also has a ski boat to tow him on his wake board. He’s still trying to nail that back flip, but he hasn’t got it quite yet.
Once you get to know G Skinny, you might think he was the biggest rabble rouser around. His rascally ways have caused many of us to be the butt of his joke. As long as it’s not you, then you typically find yourself rolling on the floor laughing at some trickery he has pulled on a fellow friend. G Skinny is always there to lend an ear for anything that might be on your mind. He’s not the easiest person to get a hold of, as he bucks 20th century technology. However, whether it be one day or one year that passes between crossing paths, you can always guarantee, he is the same great, loyal friend you said goodbye to the time before.
